Hamas’s steadfastness might prompt Israel to further escalate the attack
30/07/2014 by Wilhelm Langthaler
Israel’s ground assault on Gaza is meeting severe resistance – as has been the case many times before. Despite massive destruction and a death toll exceeding one thousand – mainly civilians – the resistance and Hamas remain combative. They rejected a capitulation agreement put forward by Egypt and endorsed by Israel. Lifting the embargo remains the central and immediate Palestinian demand as the base for a ceasefire. This is legitimate and must be supported by democrats across the globe.

How to create the conditions for political negotiations
As they did in the past Iraqis refuse to surrender their land to the radicals
20/06/2014 Pedro Rojo*, IraqSolidaridad
"The Military Council of the Revolution, formed by the former Iraqi army military, youth of the revolution and tribal members, is coordinating the military struggle of different groups against the Maliki government, heir to the political system imposed by the U.S. occupation".
Maliki’s sectarian regime prompting a sectarian response

ISIL’s success is evident. In less than one week they could conquer half of northern Iraq nearly without combat. Large parts of the Sunni population regard Baghdad’s Shia government as their prime foe. Actually it was a Sunni coalition which pushed back the pro-Iranian regime, largely congruent with the Iraqi resistance against the US occupation ten years back.

All our party offices were destroyed by the so-called National Guard, which is the legal cover for the neo-Nazi groups. When our people came to the offices they saw people in black uniforms, armed with AK-47s and blockading our offices. They took everything: flags, music systems, computers and even newspapers. It is easily understood that under such conditions no legal, open work is possible.

Whoever cared for social rights and for the future of democracy, apart from the interests of workers, was against the birth of the European Union. The Union signed in 1992 by the neo-liberalist Maastricht Treaty was a pact that saw great capitalists from the different countries join forces in a common cause to restore their absolute control, in the aftermath of the imperialistic euphoria caused by the collapse of the real socialisms.

Democracy means that also the Muslim Brothers are entitled to enjoy it

Coup general Sisi with his main backer Saudi king Abdallah
By the military coup, the cracking down on the Muslim Brothers and the declaration of the state of emergency the generals attempt to restore the rule of the old social and (partially) also political elite. The army has been the central pillar of the global capitalist order in Egypt.

The German elites are dictating Europe extreme austerity. The ideology behind that: salvation comes about by emulating the German export-driven wage-deflationary model. Only by means of such drastic treatment the EU periphery could regain competitiveness. In this way these economies are pushed into deep recession with an unknown end. Dozens of millions of people are forced into unprecedented misery which for decades had been considered overcome for capitalist Europe. Eventually Germany itself will be drawn into the vortex of crisis as it is destroying its own markets. The only solution suggesting itself: dissolving the eurozone.
The common currency was conceived as the final act of the unification of the capitalist elites in the frame of the European Union. The Euro should have sealed the brazen regime of the capitalist oligarchy led by Germany.

Palestine is the symbolic centre of all conflicts within the imperialist-capitalist world system. It exemplifies that (neo)colonial domination, let alone the grab of land by the West, evokes resistance. The two-state formula “land for peace” (read: partial return of land for the end of resistance) has failed as Israel sticks to its goal to take it all.

In Hindi Adivasi means first people and is used also as a self-description. Since the Indo-european settlement the mostly Dravidic Adivasis have been oppressed. They either remain below the Hindu caste system or got integrated at its lowest rank – like untouchables or Dalits. The Indian constitution deliberately avoided the notion Adivasi to ward off possible political claims emanating from the meaning.

In the Gaza Strip one and a half million people virtually live under siege, behind barbed wire and without a chance to escape this prison camp. The living conditions are unbearable due to a severe shortage of food, medicine and clean water, strictly limited power supply and worsening hygienic conditions. Despite this situation the blockade of the Gaza Strip is tightened and the Israeli Army is launching military actions and bombardments on an almost daily basis. Those who have to suffer are the civilians.

In the first years after the formation of the Anti-imperialist Camp we used to hold an annual public summer camp in Assisi, Italy, the last one in 2004. After difficult years we revive this experience this year 2012 on the juncture of the Arab revolt and the Southern European movements against the EU crisis.
