22.00 – Screening of a documentary film by the greek film director Nikos Klitsikas on Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon

Saturday, July 10
The day is dedicated to the presentation of the participating organisations’ experiences. Each session will start with a short self-presentation, followed by the description of the geo-political and humanitarian situation in the areas of intervention. Finally, the organisation’s field work will be presented.

9.00 – Sumud: voluntary service and resistence in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.

11.00 – Gazzella: On the side of Palestinian children, victims of occupation

18.00: Aiutiamoli a vivere: The role of NGOs and non-profit associations in conflict zones. The cases of Iraq and Somalia.

Sunday, July 11
A Round Table discussion will allow the representatives of the participating organisations as well as the other participants to exchange on the different concepts of voluntary service and the various organisations’ field experience.

9.30 – Solidarity with the peoples, not with the Empire. What kind of voluntary service to reach which objectives?

12.30 – Lunch

13.30 – Conclusion and departure

The conference will take place in the hostel Fattoria Il Poggio (www.fattoriaisolapolvese.com) on the Isola Polvese, located inside the picturesque Natural Preserve Trasimeno. The island can be easily reached by ferry boat from San Feliciano (one way fares €3.40, two way fares within the same day €5.00)
