From better times when people still had hopes in Syriza
The results of the recent triple elections (european, regional, local) signify the end of an era, a process that has been going on since 2015. The social and the organized left find it difficult to accept it. After the referendum in 2015, Greece has entered a new, tougher and more conservative political reality, in which two similar parties (SYRIZA and New Democracy) pursue similar policies, the Left counts but never heals its wounds and the extreme right raises in prominence, changing expressions and forms.

Youth’s Left Network, Greece
Youth’s Left Network is a left faction in Greek universities and is active in most of the university schools of Greece. Its goal is to combine the struggle for Free and Public Education with the struggle for the independence of Greece from the European Union. In the coming student elections of 18th May, where around 90.000 students will vote, Youth’s Left Network will participate through a common ballot with EAAK (linked to ANTARSYA and Popular Unity) and AREN (linked to ex-SYRIZA Youth). [P.S. They scored 16% of the votes.]

He calls for the ordered disintegration of the eurozone in order to save the EU. Given that he was one of the leading figures of the left wing of the ruling PD it is an extraordinary development of utmost importance.

During his visit to Israel on July 19, 2015, the Greek defence minister Kammenos has signed a mutual “status of forces” agreement. Although pecularities have not been reported, such agreements usually regulate the conditions under which foreign military forces can operate on the sovereign territory of a given state. It is to be noted that so far Israel has had such a treaty in place only with its closest ally and long-time protector, the US.

The German „Antikapitalistische Linke“ in DIE LINKE supports the steady position of those SYRIZA-members and -M.P.s, who yesterday opposed in the Greek parliament the Brussels-agreement as a brutal dictation of austerity and privatisation from Merkel and Schäuble.
